My first steps

It's 1/2/2013 which means I'm officially on Day 2 of my fat to fit lifestyle change.

First let me start out by saying the support I received on Facebook, Instagram, via text from friends and family and on my blog here has been nothing short of amazing and super encouraging.  Sometimes when I'm at my lowest and feeling so bad about myself I tend to think that no one cares or understands what I'm dealing with or going through.  When writing my last blog post I was so nervous that I would be judged or ridiculed and neither happened.  I was lifted up in prayer by so many friends, I received such heartwarming comments and words of encouragement - even from strangers who happened to read my blog.
So, THANK YOU, everyone for your support, encouragement, prayers and kind words.

I've made a few changes so far and I think they're going to help so I decided to share them with you.

~ I joined www.myfitnesspal.com and started tracking everything I eat.  They have an app for smart phones so I have it handy at all times and you can even track your exercise and weight loss.  The neat thing is when you're entering what you've eaten mostly everything is already in their system so you just scroll through the choices and choose the one that matches what you need.

~ I kicked my Dunkin Donuts habit to the curb.  Every morning for longer than I can even remember I stopped at DD on my way into work and got a large iced coffee with extra milk and equal and a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese.
When I put those 2 things into www.myfitnesspal.com it calculated 686 calories!

686 calories for JUST breakfast, and the worst part is that it didn’t even satisfy me for long since it was all carbs.  Needless to say, no more Dunkin Donuts stops in the morning.  This morning I made coffee at home and had cheerios and a banana - my breakfast calorie count today is 330 calories.  Plus saved $5.00!

~ I created a "Healthy for 2013" board on Pinterest and I've been finding and pinning easy and healthy recipes to make at home.   My plan is to find a recipe every day before leaving work that I'm going to make for dinner and if needed I'll stop at the grocery store on my way home.

~  I organized our cabinets at home and threw out all the junk.

~ I took before pictures, weighed myself and took my measurements.  I know that I'll hit plateaus along this journey so keeping track of inches will help.  I did post my before pictures on Instagram - follow me - username Camarogirl819

Again, thank you for the encouragement.  I won’t be posting updates every day but this is my new life so I need to embrace it and may need to talk about it once in a while.  If you have any questions, suggestions or advice please feel free to ask or share.  I'll be happy to answer (almost) anything!

This scripture has really been on my heart lately and I pray that I exemplify it during my journey.  I'm scared that I'll fail but I can't live like that.  Every day is a fresh start and I'm going to take this one step at a time, one second, one minute, one hour at a time.  I can and will do this.

Lunch with my toddler

Yesterday I had an early day from work so
I had the bright idea to ask my husband to take Olivia
and meet me for lunch before he went to work.

I'd been dying to try this Mexican place so we figured this was the perfect opportunity.
Off we went.

The second I put Olivia in her highchair, it was all over.
She was pissed
She cried and tried to climb out and get us to pick her up.

Thankfully the waitress brought over some tortilla chips that we could
munch on so that bought us a whole 5 minutes of quiet.
But as soon as she was done with the chips she was back to her crabby self.

Now, this is a new occurrence, she's never, ever been difficult to take anywhere.
Lately, since she started walking, she wants nothing to do with being confined to a highchair.

But, she also isn't old enough to know to stay with us at the table
and not randomly eat things off the floor, so putting her down isn't an option.

Lunch finally came.  I ordered the dish I'd been craving,
steak and Gorgonzola tacos with Mexi rice and a corn muffin.
(tastes good hot, disgusting cold)

Olivia got chicken and cheese quesedilla.
Score right? chicken & cheese, cant go wrong!
She wanted NO part of it.
My husband thought ordering her some plain chicken would be a better idea...
So add six more bucks to the bill of uneaten food.
Now we had 2 kids meals that both went to waste.

90% of her food ended up on the floor (which we did clean up)
and she mainly just cried the whole time.

I seriously think that going out to eat with our toddler is over.

The Food Battle... dun dun dun

Olivia has been giving me a run for my money, literally, with all the food that's been wasted lately.
My normally great eater has been turning up her nose at everything
that isn't bread, a cracker or a potato puff.

She's totally a one hit wonder.

If I only offer her one food, say, chicken, she's fine.
But once there are options like chicken, green beans and a slice
of Italian bread she only wants the bread.

Last night dinner was sirloin tips, veggies and a few potato puffs (for my carb loving ass  soul).
I gave Olivia about 3 or 4 small bites of steak and once girlfriend spotted the potato puffs it was all over.
Any bite of steak was turned away.

I tried putting it on her fork and letting her feed herself...she handed it back to me
I tried putting it on her highchair tray...thrown to the dogs
I tried hiding it behind a small piece of potato puff...she spit it out

So, do I feed her one food at a time starting with the
most important foods and leave the table clear of everything
else before she's eaten a good amount of healthy foods?

Do I trust that her breakfast and dinner are 100% healthy because
that's our only option and let her eat what she wants at dinner?

Since having Olivia, one of my biggest fears for her was having a weight issue.
I've dealt with one my whole life, as has my mother,
and it's NOT something I want Olivia to ever have to worry about.

I think this is kind of a wake up call to me though.
Maybe we don't need the potato puffs or Italian bread on the table at all.
For any of us.

Hmmm.

Christmas Breakfast

For Christmas breakfast I wanted to make something fun for Olivia.
I recently read a post (or saw an instragram - I don't remember) from
Katie @ Loves of Life where she used cookie cutters to make eggs in a basket, Christmas style!
I was sold.

Our little Christmas breakfast was so adorable and easy to make...

Not to mention it was a huge hit with Olivia who loves eggs and toast!

Since Olivia likes scrambled eggs, I scrambled one egg in a bowl.
Chose my cookie cutter shape and cut the hole in the bread.
Put a little margarine on each side, placed it in a pan and let it cook for about a minute on low.
Pour the egg into the cut out shape, let it cook a bit and then flip it over.
Cook the egg to whatever consistency you like and that's it.

We served ours with a bit of ketchup and a sippy cup of milk!

Enjoy!
